The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, created the FSSAI as a separate food licensing and regulatory agency. In compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act of 2006, it was founded in August 2011.
One of the necessary licenses to begin a food business is the FSSAI license, also called the Food License, which is acquired through the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) Registration process.
The FSSAI requires registration from all individuals involved in the food sector. Regardless of whether the firm is involved in food production, distribution, packaging, processing, or sales, an FSSAI registration is required in order to operate a food business.
All businesses in the food industry, including producers, traders, eateries, cafés, grocery shops, importers, exporters, in-house food enterprises, dairy farms, processors, retailers, and internet merchants, are given a 14-digit unique registration number by FSSAI Registration. All packing materials should bear this FSSAI registration number, and the food outlet’s grounds shall likewise show it.
By regulating and supervising food safety, the FSSAI License is tasked with protecting and advancing public health.
